In the summer of 2010, we were cleaning out extra junk from the house and filled up the truck to head off the to landfill. I never go to the city landfill but on that fateful day. I soon realized why I was supposed to be there. As we pulled up to the drop area, a woman was standing with a large cardboard box, inside it were 6 kittens. .. clinging on for dear life.
Someone had thrown them away and left them for dead. They were only 3 weeks old.
I peered into the box (wanting to take them all and nurse them to health.) when she told me 3 of them had already been spoken for, one of them was likely not to live and so I chose only one kitten that day, praying the others would survive.
We chose the smallest one, the one whose tail had almost fallen off. And we started bottle-feeding her day and night hoping that she would recover. She was eating! But soon, we figured out, it wasn’t coming out the other end…
And so, this was a job for her friend and an adoptive mom to handle. An unlikely hero, this 5-pound pomeranian ( a rescue dog herself) nursed her back to health and became her adoptive mom.
Soon her tail began to grow and her eye began to heal from the infection.
and then she began to play…
And we knew everything would be alright.
Chance is now 9 years old and follows us wherever we go, she has protected us from aggressive dogs in her own ninja kitty style and we are a lucky family to have her with us.
Animals are not garbage.
Here are 5 funny and inspiring things you can learn from your cat.
5. Not everyone has the same heart as you.
If you have a cat, then you know all too well the gifts they leave for you on the porch. Not everyone will appreciate the things you do for them.
4. Take the leap!
You won’t know if you if you’re going to land on your feet if you never take a risk! You might surprise yourself when you come out o.k.
3. Self Care
Did you know that a cat spends half of their adult life grooming themselves? Besides the fact that they sleep all day, wouldn’t that be nice!
2. Share the love!
Cats always show affection and are the first ones to want a cuddle. If you’ve got love you want to share with others, do! When it comes to love, there’s no way it won’t be purrrrfect!
1. Your first instinct is usually right.
Cats know who they like and who they don’t and there not afraid to show it. Cats choose their friends wisely and keep their circles small. Who wants a catfight?
