Simply put your ego is your self-image. Governed by your solar plexus, it is the seat of your identity. Or to be clear the identity that you have given yourself.
If your solar plexus is blocked, the energy has become stagnant and the flow is interrupted.
The personal power of the individual likely becomes lacking in confidence and thereby can become worried about what others think. A lack of self-confidence naturally spurs an overactive ego. This is due to the fact that the energy blockage has made it so it cannot flow down and into the sacral and then root chakra which governs your “fight or flight” behavior.
When your chakras become unbalanced and “out of whack” there are several symptoms that you can pick up on.
Here is a list of 8 Signs of an Out of Control Ego
- Being Judgmental
- Quick on the Defense (and no I don’t mean sports)
- Nothing is your fault- ever
- Self Critical
- “Poor me” syndrome
- You think you know everything
Now, What to Do about it?
An Exercise to Open Your Solar Plexus:
Chamomile, turmeric, cumin and fennel are great for this chakra as well as any kind of yellow food such as Yellow Peppers, Lemons, bananas and butternut squash.
A wounded solar plexus will harbor emotions of fear, resentment and rejection. In order to get this chakra flowing we need reclaim our own personal power in a healthy way. This can be done by releasing emotions, and the way we release an emotion is to just be with that emotion. Own the emotion, hold it in, and finally release it calmly with an outward breath. Think to yourself, of the many unexpressed and built up emotions you have and try this solar plexus chakra meditation. Remembering to breath in and out softly as you feel your way through.
